Get the Boot

23 Feb

The combat boot is currently (and will continue to be) one of the hottest Spring footwear trends right on into Fall/Winter 2010. For spring we are seeing feminine pieces with a rocker edgy tone, think flowy florals with a denim shirt or jacket, and lace up boots. I also love the look of cut-off denim shorts with tights and grungy combat boots, a little unlaced and loosely tied around the ankle.

Of course when I began my quest for a new old looking pair of military-esque boots the first thing that came to mind was my favorite pair of black Dr. Martens I had when I was 7. I even remember wanting to wear my boots with party dresses and my mother saying, “absolutely not!” Little did she know 15 years later it would be the hottest trend.

There are so many styles, patterns, and even colors to choose from I might just have to stock a couple pairs. Steve Madden has some pretty worn in looking pairs and of course Dr. Martens never disappoint with their pretty prints and brightly colored standard style boots. I feel like the military boot could even be Free People’s signature boot, what with their continual vintage, homeless look they perfect so well every season. They’re boot selection is awesome, it might even constitute its own post, be sure to check them out.

Miley Cyrus does a pretty decent job of depicting the many ways it is appropriate to sport combat boots.

Steve Madden ‘Corley’, $110

Jeffrey Campbell combat, $285

Wanted Prague, $70

Forever 21 studded, $33

Bess rollover vintage, $460

Dr. Martens, $150

Dr. Martens floral, $120

Trendy, hardcore, and pretty cute to boot!

Home Sweet Home

19 Feb

After being in Las Vegas for the past week I realized that there is really little (to nothing) I like about this city. It fails to hold the same excitement and fun it did when I was 21.

Perhaps it has lost its sparkle because instead of sleeping until noon and then laying by the pool, I now find myself there for a week at a time merchandising trade show booths, attending meetings, and working 12 hour days. Or perhaps it is simply because it is dirty and disgusting and a down right immoral place of filth, yeah it’s probably any combination of the latter.

I was so excited to get on my plane home last night I actually ended up at the airport a full two and a half hours before my flight, go figure! Upon arriving back in Los Angeles I appreciated every little comfort of home with as much excitement as a little kid.

Precious puppy kisses from Cupcake.

Eating ice cream in bed with boyfriend.

Smelling like something other than cigarette smoke.

Sleeping in my bed and normal bedtime hours.

Happy to be home, happy it’s Friday, just happy!

Doggone Cute

18 Feb

Ok, I know! I am slightly puppy obsessed/crazy right now and I do not see any sign of it subsiding so you will just have to bear with me, and perhaps even be inspired to get a lil one of your own.

In fact I have been so incessantly shopping for puppy paraphernalia that my iPhone dies approximately twice as fast as it usually does, this is serious! I am still undecided how I feel about pet clothing so I only half heartedly look for dog hoodies (what is the world coming to?!), miniature bows and matching collars however, now that is right up my alley.

Cupcake dog bed (I know), $70

Italian leather puppy purse, $495

Strawberry print puppy tote, $18

Jimmy Chew dog toy, $11

Ralph Lauren hoodie, $60

Juicy Couture terry pullovers, $45

Sunglasses dog bowl, $43

Cuddles dog bowls, $12

Sweet Kiss bowls, $87

Houndstooth collar, $14

Puppy necklace, $28

Juicy Couture flower collar, $55

Way too doggone cute! Going home to play with my puppy…

Puppy Love

12 Feb

Really though, I am in love with a puppy! Well, not just any puppy, it’s my puppy and she is the cutest thing ever. She came as an early Valentine’s Day present and now we have the whole weekend to play with her (and name her). Which brings me to the next topic of discussion, the naming of a new pet…how does one even begin to tackle this task?

Needless to say I have already perused countless sites to name your puppy, create a custom collar, carry your puppy in style, and the list goes on. However, I still have yet to decide on her name, so for now I call her an assortment of my top 5 and hopefully sooner rather than later she will have a official name to engrave on her tag.

What do you think, which is your favorite of my favorites?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Faded Florals

10 Feb

I’m letting this post do double duty since it covers both trending denim and a  sneak peek at Celebrity Pink’s spring line. Prints and patterns of every sort are hot for the coming warmer months, even more so when mixed and matched back with each other.

Celebrity Pink has an entire line of printed denim in faded vintage florals and sweet unique patterns. The silhouette, shapes, and hardware details pull the print into a wearable style that simply begs to be worn. Here are some of my favorites.

This bright bold pattern is elegantly accented with gold buttons and mature details such as the structured hems and back belting.

A faded wash and dainty pearl buttons complete this down home well-worn look.

The ruffle adds dimension to a monochromatic color scheme print.

I just love this little pocket, it is so cute with its tiny floral print.

We all know how I feel about hearts. But heart printed denim with a gathered waist…must have!

This colored print makes these cut-off denim shorts perfect for spring.

More fading, more florals, more sweetly placed detailing…

This is a pretty good summation of the best and brightest (ok, more like faded) printed denim CP spring 2010 has to offer. There are so many ways to wear floral, I’m loving mixing it with stripes, plaid, checkered and even other floral prints. Check out both February and March issues Lucky Magazine for their Bright, Bold, and Spontaneous for Spring article (among others) that shows just what print play is all about!

Not So Regular Joe

8 Feb

I have always loved Joe’s Jeans for their authentic denim look and feel. You can see and touch the quality in the depth of their denim and in the simplicity of the design. As for fit, I have found them to run a little big but no worry, just buy a size down.

They were one of the first brands I can remember to debut their jegging, remember the topless ballerina ads?

I was very excited to learn that Joe’s will be opening not one, not two, but NINE outlet stores bringing the grand total to 13 nationwide with only 2 full price retail stores.  They are headquartered right in my backyard, Commerce, California, which makes samples sales conveniently exciting. And lucky for you Joe’s Jeans can soon be found at Premium Outlet Centers in California locations at both Carlsbad and Cabazon as well as Las Vegas, Seattle, Houston, Cincinnati, Wrentham, Massachusetts, Leesburg, Virginia and Dawsonville, Georgia…(kind of random). For more details and exciting news you can read the full story here.
